Well , they've finally done it . How to composite render passes in Nuke , online lessons :) . Been looking all over the place for something like this , closest I got was fxphd.com , but nothing this specific . I'm seriously considering taking it when I get the time . How about you guys ?
Sounds pretty good. Looks like there doing a couple more classroom courses too. I wish I had the money!
ReplyDeleteIf you get it let me know if you think its any good.
Ryan
yeah sounds good, lend us £5 Aziz
ReplyDeletelol . I have to admit , it is a bit expensive :( . & even though I am enticed by Panos' idea , I feel that if we want to make honest money in this field , its best we invest in other people's work . Otherwise no one will invest in ours .
ReplyDeleteI don't want to sound preachy or anything . I know I'm not the one to talk . But I was humbled a bit by the guy I'm working for . I suggested something like this to him ( sharing my Maya tutorials with him ) , & being a tutor himself for Max ( even though most of his tutorials are for FREE ) , he refused . He felt he couldn't accept getting other people's work for free , when he just made a DVD that he hopes will make him some money .
I do have another suggestion for you guys ;) . If I actually do take the course , then I can make a quick tutorial for you guys of what I've learned & show you the node tree in Nuke for the render passes . I don't imagine it would be too difficult since we know the theory already from the Shake tree .
Or we could all ask Rebecca to give us a better price , since we are recent students , & we did ask about Nuke many times ( I know I did ) , especially after reading the article about Shake's death when I was there . I mean they did say they'd teach us the industry standard , & now that they've made Nuke tutorials , we can all agree that they know it is even when WE were there . Let me know what you guys think . ;)
:-)
ReplyDeleteMy personal opinion is that we have invested quite heavily in their work already. I appreciate your opinion, truly, but i'll refrain from taking the moral high ground until I see a return on my investment dollars. Till then, take as many free rides as you can. (who's looking out for you?)
Plus, I dunno about the rest of you but i'm a bit miffed that we had very limited hands on with composting in general. What was it, one day on shake and a 15 minute explanation of rotoscoping? (at least in my group) - for something that's absolutely crucial to the type of work we need to produce, i'd say that wasn't enough. Fair play they introduced us to the concepts that we can research further on our own...
Even still, In light of that, this should be made available to us for free, just as the camera tracking stuff was. It's all related after all.
Offer still stands :-)
Can't disagree with ya . I also feel a bit cheated by how our course ended . The other groups did much more than us in the end . They even had Lee teach them how to composite a project he worked on !! Not to mention the extra days they had to finish their projects with .
ReplyDeleteWell , I guess we could first try to contact Rebecca & ask her for the tutorials for free . Hmmm ?!
I see the nuke package deal uses a deviation the little beechams packet character with arms as an example. We used the original footage for the beechams commercial and put it together in Shake when we had Lee. The tutorial was so fast that it was hard to keep up and digest it all. It would be nice to get the nuke deal but seriously, we need to all get together and split the bill for 10 hrs of video. I would be inclined to ask Rebecca to see if we can get a discount as times are hard in todays climate yadda yadda etc
ReplyDeleteWho has everyone's email ? Was it Tom ? Maybe one of us can write an email & get it signed by everyone , then send it to Rebecca . If we don't get a good deal , then we can consider other means . I mean if 10 or more people tell Escape we're interested in taking the course , but for a better price , they should consider , no ? Or perhaps we can ask them to make us a group account for the same price ?
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of competition out there . One interesting website is fxphd.com . They give courses online for 330 dollars . You get professional footage & get to choose 3 elective courses & 1 compulsory . Anyway , you even get a certificate in the end .
That to me sounds like a much better deal than Escape's , cause you get to keep the tutorials & footage ( no time limit & constant internet requirement ) . Anyway , anyone interested in writing that email ?
"one day on shake and a 15 minute explanation of rotoscoping?" 幹!他媽的! sorry dude! I just don`t want to recollect it !
ReplyDeleteand fxphd....that`s more like for compositor not for 3d artist~
I have used nuke for compositing and everything seems well but I still have some problem on integrate with maya 2009`s render passes , and I can`t find any solution on internet ,so frustrated ....
If we can get good deal via an email ,I`d love to,or I don`t want to invest anything~
by the way there are some tutorials on the internet maybe you have interesting on it !

good luck guys!
Thing is, whatever 'deal' they might cut us on the back of a group email is not gonna be as cost effective as if a few of us (and it seems like everyone's interested) split the cost. Just off the back of the comments so far it'd be like £60 odd quid between 4.
ReplyDeleteGroup email thing sounds like a good idea to start with though, Aziz, you want to lead this? I'm not sure how we're going to sign it... perhaps just cc in everyone else's email, should be enough to register the point.
Wow Tu , that link seems to be EXACTLY what we're looking for . Haven't seen the tutorials yet to judge ( some aren't ready it seems ) , but I saw the overview . I'll make sure to have a look when I get the time . I got some time off from work right now , so I'm watching the Esc ZBrush tutorials before they expire .
ReplyDeleteGuys , check the link Tu posted first , then let me know if I should write that email to Rebecca . I'll think of what to write by the time you guys decide . ;)
Guys,
ReplyDeleteThis is Jason at Escape, if you want to contact me I'll see what I can do about this for you.
